ERRATUM
Funnily enough, I did not realise the fact that what I tested was only four days of usage, which is not equal to 30 days that is the subscription amount. Therefore, the value return on investment, should be multiplied by 30 divided by four, which is 7.5, to get the actual ROI (3847.5%).
I wanted to see how much the GPT pro subscription is worth:
Methodology:
On Monday, April 27, 2026, at 10:37:05 PM PDT @thsottiaux announced a manual reset of all rate limits to celebrate the release of GPT-5.5.
I tracked all of the usage after that date, and I maxed out today using the fast tier. Keep in mind that you should multiply the bottom number by two to get the normal tier value.
Codex Pro vs. Regular API Pricing
Total Tokens Used: 2,167,907,407
| Metric | Codex Pro (100% Budget) | Regular API Estimated Value |
|---|---|---|
| Total Cost | $200.00 | $1,226.08 |
| Value Multiplier | 1x | 6.13x |
I consumed approximately 2.17 Billion tokens in 4 days:
- GPT-5.5: 1,465,457,103 tokens (~67% of total usage)
- GPT-5.4-mini: 462,902,377 tokens
- GPT-5 (Fallback): 149,109,059 tokens
- Codex Auto-Review: 90,437,298 tokens
Conclusion
For a $200 subscription, I spent $1,226.08 worth of tokens at current market rates. This means Codex Pro is currently providing a 513% return on investment compared to direct API usage.
