Brazil · 1 project · Last reported

Summary

Elea Data Centers is developing Rio AI City, a data centre hub in the Olympic Park area of Rio de Janeiro with institutional support from the city government. Announced in May 2025 with an initial 1.5 GW of energy capacity and potential growth to 3.2 GW, it was later targeted to reach 1.5 GW by 2027 and 3.2 GW by 2032. Elea counts its operating RJO1 facility in the first phase; RJO2 (about 80 MW) was under construction for initial delivery in 2026, and RJO3 and RJO4 would add 120 MW. Elea signed memoranda with the city and Oracle in August 2025 and with the city, energy companies and Tapestry in November 2025. I Squared Capital had completed its acquisition of Elea by June 2026.

Elea's investment figures are inconsistent: the May 2025 release refers both to several billion dollars and to hundreds of billions of dollars of direct and indirect investment over a decade, so no investment metric is recorded. The status also rests on Elea's undated Rio AI City page, which lists RJO1 as operating and RJO2 as under construction, so status_as_of is the date it was read (2026-10-09). Axia Energia and Light signed the November 2025 memorandum, but no source states a supply or utility role for them, so they are not listed as parties.
