Cavour Hyperscale Campus (Trino)
Announced
Italy · 1 project · Last reported
Summary
Proposed data processing and AI campus on the site of the former Galileo Ferraris power station at Trino in the province of Vercelli, Piedmont, associated with the Italian engineering and construction group TechBau. On 24 July 2026 Italy's Council of Ministers declared it a programme of preeminent national strategic interest, citing about EUR 4 billion of investment and 300 to 400 MW of power. The site would reuse an existing 380 kV substation and an operating 87.5 MW solar plant, with 100 to 120 MW of battery storage. The timetable calls for the permitting conference to open by the end of 2026, a single authorisation in 2027 and a first lot in service in 2028.

The Council of Ministers decision covered two programmes totalling about EUR 8 billion; the other is an Equinix programme in Lombardy and is not part of this record. No Council of Ministers or ministry release was opened, and no later report on the permitting conference or the appointment of a commissioner was found. ItaliaOggi attributes the EUR 4 billion figure to La Stampa. The regional release describes the campus as a hub for data processing and artificial intelligence; none of the opened sources states cloud workloads. The Italian Wikipedia article on the former plant is used for coordinates only.
