Summary
On 29 July 2026 the Secretary of State allowed Appeal A (APP/E5900/W/25/3367041) and granted planning permission for demolition of the existing buildings at 47 Grey Eagle Street and construction of a new building providing 5,200 sq m GIA of Use Class B8 floorspace for use as a data centre (Tower Hamlets application PA/24/01450). The permission is subject to the Annex B1 conditions, including a three-year commencement limit. The appellant's inquiry case describes it as a speculative retail co-location facility. No operator, tenant, demolition, construction start or capacity is established. evidence

Official London Datahub record for the 2024 EIA scoping request PA/24/00631. It covers three separate planning application areas, Block A (the 5,200 sq m GIA data centre), the main site and Ely's Yard, including 47 Grey Eagle Street, and publishes their red-line parts as a geometry collection. The captured record omits a CRS member; its coordinates are British National Grid metres, as the Hackney consultation copy of the same red line (Hackney-2024_0876) states explicitly with EPSG:27700. One 1,582 sq m part contains the PA/24/01450/A1 centroid, 14.0 m inside its nearest edge, and its own centroid lies 0.7 m from that point. That part matches the 0.16 ha data-centre site area. The adjacent 1,505 sq m part contains the PA/24/01439/A1 Ely's Yard centroid, consistent with the Inspector's description of Appeal A's site on the opposite side of Grey Eagle Street from Ely's Yard. evidence

- Precision scope
- Authority-published centroid of the permitted data-centre application site (PA/24/01450/A1; 0.16 ha). It lies inside the matching 1,582 sq m Block A part of the borough's EIA scoping red line (PA/24/00631), 14.0 m from its nearest edge; the part's farthest vertex is 32.2 m away. It locates the small application site, not a surveyed building footprint, construction extent or legal boundary.
- Horizontal uncertainty
Not reported
The authority publishes no positional accuracy for the application centroid (latitude is published to four decimals); the offset to the future building within the roughly 40 m by 50 m site is unknown.
- Geometry evidence
- 41e1c3d3
A locator places the site on the map. It is not a building footprint, a construction extent or a surveyed boundary unless the use scope is an official boundary, and even then it is a parcel or permit boundary.
