Stargate Milam County (SB Energy campus)
Under construction
United States · 1 project · Last reported
Summary
A fast-build Stargate AI campus in Milam County, Texas, about 70 miles northeast of Austin, developed by SoftBank in partnership with OpenAI, with SoftBank's SB Energy providing the powered infrastructure. It was announced in September 2025 as one of two SoftBank sites that together could scale to 1.5 GW within about 18 months, and SoftBank said then that it was breaking ground. Analyst Epoch AI projects about 1.2 GW for this site, saw steel framing and roofing on the first building in March 2026 imagery, and cites state filings pointing to delivery of that building by October 2026. SB Energy plans to fund and build new generation and storage for most of the campus power.
Source record as of 2026-04-17 · Details and sources
SB Energy's Milam Data Center site, in its Internet Archive copy of 1 October 2026, says the Milam Data Center is a 1 GW+ AI data center that SB Energy is developing and will own and operate, that 'Phase 1 of the project is in construction', that the project 'is currently employing over 1,000 craft workers' and that OpenAI is the customer. This refreshes the record's under-construction observation of 17 April 2026 with SB Energy's own statement as published on 1 October 2026 (the archive capture day). Only Phase 1 is stated to be in construction; first operations in 2027 are a forecast, and no completion, commissioning, capacity in service or building count is inferred. evidence
