AWS Clinton data center (former Delphi plant)

Summary

Amazon is converting the former Delphi Packard plant in Clinton, Hinds County, into a data center. The governor announced the $1 billion project in April 2026 with about 100 jobs; Amazon says the plant closed in 2009 and then sat empty for years. At a June 2026 ribbon-cutting held to mark the investment, Amazon said this was its first full retrofit of an existing industrial building into a functioning data center, but it gave no in-service date or capacity. AWS says the site will use no water, and the mayor says day-to-day power will come from the grid.

Site identity conflict: the governor's release and Amazon describe the building as the former Delphi plant, while an April 2026 local TV report calls it the former Milwaukee Tool factory on Industrial Park Drive. Status: Amazon's June 2026 post says the plant was fully retrofitted into a functioning data center, but the same post frames the ribbon-cutting as celebrating the investment and job creation and gives no in-service date or operating capacity, so the operational status rests on that one statement.
