Summary
Proposed 15-building AI data center campus by Bitdeer Technologies Group and Geis Development at the Turnpike Commerce Center, just north of the Ohio Turnpike in Shalersville Township, Portage County, Ohio. Plans made public in May 2026 start with two data halls of about 48,000 sq ft each plus an office building and 150 MW of initial power capacity, with a potential 750 MW at full build-out over about five years; construction was put at more than USD 300 million, excluding computing equipment. A township moratorium is in place, and on 6 October 2026 trustees required uses of 25 MW or more to sit on heavy industrial land, which the township lacks; Geis's lawyers threatened to sue.

Timeline
| Date | Event | Actual or planned | Notes | Sources |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-05 | Announced | Actual | Plans became public in late May 2026, ahead of a township residents' open house that the article links to 29 May. | News 5 Cleveland (WEWS) |

| 2026-10-06 | Other | Actual | Trustees amended zoning definitions so that uses of 25 MW or more belong on heavy industrial land, which the township lacks; Geis's lawyer called the change unlawful and said the firm would sue unless it was tabled or rejected. The moratorium runs to the first week of November, and trustees said they would extend it if needed. | The Portager |

|---|---|---|
| Grid | Bitdeer said it would pay for the electricity it needs and for any transmission and distribution upgrades; the utility is not named. | News 5 Cleveland (WEWS) |
The News 5 Cleveland article (s1) shows no publication date; its images are dated 27 May 2026 and it links to a 29 May 2026 open house, so its figures are dated 2026-05. The Portager's June report (s2) relays the land-contract detail from News 5. Bitdeer says it is not seeking tax abatements and put phase 1 property tax revenue at about USD 2.17 million a year. The first buildings would use closed-loop liquid cooling with about 350 gallons of water a day and no wells. The August 2026 Portager article is partly paywalled; only its opening could be read. Further planning commission, zoning commission and trustee meetings were scheduled for 14 to 20 October 2026.
