Meta DeKalb Data Center

Partially operational

Summary

Meta campus at 2050 Metaverse Way on the south side of DeKalb, Illinois, off Interstate 88. Meta broke ground in 2020 on a planned five-building campus of more than 2.3 million sq ft and more than USD 1 billion of investment. It came online in late November 2023, when the Illinois governor attended the opening; local reports said two buildings were serving traffic and about 1 million sq ft had been built. Meta says it planned its energy needs with ComEd and pays the full cost of the energy the campus uses.

The City of DeKalb's agenda for its 26 October 2026 council meeting explains the 2026 tax levy with the growth of the city's equalized assessed value and states that 'the growth in Meta's EAV has largely stabilized as the facility has reached full build-out, occupancy, and assessment', adding that the tax base generated by the Meta data center will continue to support local taxing bodies. This dated City record shows the Meta DeKalb Data Center occupied and in use, so the record's partially_operational status of 1 December 2023 is refreshed with this newer observation of the same status, dated 26 October 2026 (the agenda's printed date, captured the same day). The sentence explains a tax-assessment chart and gives no building count, and the City's 24 August 2026 agenda refers to 'future phases of the Meta data center', so it does not establish that all five buildings planned for the campus are built and operating; operational is not claimed. No capacity or building count is inferred. evidence
