United States · 1 project · Last reported
Summary
On 1 October 2026 Wayne County published its commission's override of the County Executive's veto of tax incentives and a community benefits agreement for the proposed Google data center in Van Buren Township known as Project Cannoli, a step required for the project to qualify as an enterprise data center for state sales and use tax exemptions. The county states that the vote did not approve construction and that the township Planning Commission was still to review the final site plan on 14 October. No development consent, site work or construction is asserted. evidence

Planning consultant review of case VBT-25-041 for the township Planning Commission (letter dated 1 February 2026; page headers 3 February 2026; plans updated 30 January 2026). Panattoni Development Company proposes four buildings with a total footprint of 816,000 sq ft on numerous parcels totalling 282.2 acres owned by Triple Creek Associates LLC, bounded by I-275 and Wayne County Community College (north), Haggerty Road (west), the I-94 North Service Drive (south) and Hannan Road (east); the review then tabulates data processing Buildings 1-3, an office building and a network service building. Data processing centres are principal permitted uses in the M-1 district; a future DTE substation at the southwest corner needs its own site plan approval. evidence

The township's project page describes Project Cannoli as a proposed data center project near the I-94/Haggerty Road area and lists its review record: the Panattoni preliminary site plan set, consultant and fire reviews, the separate DTE/ITC substation site plan (VBT-26-004, NE corner of Haggerty and I-94 NSD), presentations to the Planning Commission (11 February, 22 April, 13 May 2026) and Board of Trustees (19 May 2026), and the development agreement. It quotes DTE testimony to the MPSC that the facility's maximum load is 1,000 MW, ramping from December 2027 to December 2028 (forecast). evidence

Google says it is partnering with DTE Energy to develop a new data center in Michigan, with 2.7 GW of new grid resources under a Clean Capacity Acceleration Agreement, and that it 'is currently evaluating a site in Van Buren Township'. - Precision scope
- Area centroid of the union of the 38 Wayne County tax parcels listed for the Project Cannoli property in the May 2026 development agreement (281.8 acres against 282.2 stated; about 1.7 by 1.1 km between Haggerty Road and Hannan Road, south of I-275 and north of the I-94 service drive). It locates the proposed campus property, not a building, the separate DTE/ITC substation site or an approved site-plan boundary.
- Horizontal uncertainty
Not reported
The county parcel layer is a 2012-vintage shapefile with no published positional accuracy, four parcels are included only in part, and the centroid represents a 282-acre property about 1.7 by 1.1 km across, so the buildings may lie several hundred metres from the point.

A locator places the site on the map. It is not a building footprint, a construction extent or a surveyed boundary unless the use scope is an official boundary, and even then it is a parcel or permit boundary.
